ZEOLITE FOR INDUSTRIAL USE
BRZ™ (Bear River Zeolite) has a broad range of industrial and municipal applications for oil and gas, mining, construction, recreation, remediation, water filtration, municipal wastewater treatment plants, storm-water ponds and barriers, as a carrier, as a desiccant, air filtration, soil amendments, fertilizers, odor control, landscaping, landfills, removal of heavy metals and nuclear isotopes, and for traction control.
Air Filtration
BRZ™ is used in air filtration systems to remove carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ethylene, exhaust gases, hydrogen sulfide, methane, mercury, nitrogen, nitrous oxides, radon, oxygen, smoke, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds
Artificial Grass Infill
BRZ™ Artificial Grass Infill provides weight to hold artificial grass in place. Our natural green clinoptilolite zeolite mineral also enhances the beauty of the grass, is durable, helps regulate temperature and moisture, and eliminates pet odors and yellow staining.
Landscape
BRZ™ is used for landscaping and as decorative stone for walkways, driveways, horse arenas, pet runs, and odor control areas. It can also be used and to create barriers for ammonium, heavy metals, and other hazardous materials.

BRZ™ Artificial Grass Infill helps control moisture, temperature, and odor. The natural green color also enhances the beauty of the grass.
Medical
Interest in clinoptilolite for human medical applications has increased, partly due to positive results from animal studies that resulted in faster growth rates, reduced incidence of diarrhea, improved overall health, and increased longevity without negative side effects. The surface and particle size of natural clinoptilolite can be modified to increase efficacy for specific applications, however the lattice size cannot be altered. Our Medical Applications Research Review (pdf below) highlights valuable findings from third party in vitro and in vivo animal and human studies.*

Mining
Mining operations use BRZ™ to control ammonia gas after blasting in shafts, winzes, stopes, drifts, and raises. BRZ™ is also used to remove ammonium from mine effluents generated from the use of ammonium nitrate (ANFO), and for the removal of heavy metal cations and radioactive elements.
Nuclear Remediation
Clinoptilolite zeolite is widely recognized as environmentally friendly and effective for the adsorption of ammonium, heavy metals, light metals, and radioactive isotopes, such as 90Sr and 137Cs.
Bear River Zeolite (BRZ™) clinoptilolite zeolite is a high quality and low cost nuclear remediation media option. The high cation-exchange-capacity (CEC) of up to 220 meq/100g captures and holds multiple cations, heavy and light metals and radioactive isotopes. The low clay content and durability are conducive to hydraulic conductivity for groundwater remediation.
BRZ™ was selected by the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) as the best performing clinoptilolite for use in a Permeable Treatment Wall (PTW) installed at a closed nuclear fuel processing plant in West Valley, NY. The PTW has effectively treated and contained the 90Sr contaminated groundwater plume since its installation in 2010.
Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories, Chalk River, Ontario, Canada, also used BRZ™ in a Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB) at a waste storage site. The 2013 PRB installation has reduced 90Sr concentrations in downgradient effluent groundwater.
Odor Control
BRZ™ clinoptilolite zeolite is used to control odors generated from agriculture, industrial plants, landfills, water treatment facilities, oil and gas processing plants, slaughter houses, rendering plants, fish processing facilities, hospitals, etc.
Pozzolan
In Portland cement, 10 to 25% of the cement can be replaced by BRZ™ clinopilolite zeolite, which is a type N pozzolan that produces a light-weight cement. It can be applied by adding it to the concrete at the batch plant, or added at the cement plant after the kiln as minus 6 inch rock directly to the inter-grind circuit. The advantage of the latter method is that it does not go through the kiln, which substantially reduces fuel cost and carbon dioxide generation.
BRZ™ increases compressive strength, reduces chloride permeability, decreases alkali-silica reactivity, resists sulfate and acid attack, and improves chemical resistance. BRZ™ can be used instead of fly ash, which contains heavy metals and is hazardous to humans.
Oil & Gas
BRZ™ is used for drying and solidifying cuttings, rig and location maintenance, filtering produced water and flow-back from fracking, and pressure swing apparatuses to increase the BTUs of natural gas. It is also effective for the remediation of oil spills, blowouts, hydrogen sulfide, high salinity soils, and for the removal of cations and some anions.
Traction
BRZ™ Grizzly Grip forms an immediate non-slip surface. The particles turn dark green as they become moist allowing them to absorb radiant heat from the sun to melt the snow and ice. BRZ™ Grizzly Grip absorbs up to 55% of its weight in water like a sponge to prevent refreeze. Unlike salt, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride, BRZ™ Grizzly Grip is non-toxic to people, animals and plants and is non-corrosive to concrete, rebar, and vehicles.
Remediation
Clinoptilolite zeolite is widely recognized as environmentally friendly and effective for the absorption of toxins. In 2009, Bear River Zeolite (BRZ™) was selected by the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) as the best performing clinoptilolite for use in a permeable treatment wall (PTW) to effectively remediate strontium-90 contaminated groundwater at a closed nuclear fuel processing plant in West Valley, NY.
The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) was initiated through the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2010 to protect and restore the Great Lakes. BRZ™ was selected as a storm water runoff filter media for multiple studies funded by EPA/GLRI grants based on proven performance, low-cost, availability, and ease of replacement.
The high cation exchange capability of BRZ™ makes it excellent for the clean-up of oil, diesel, and gasoline; PCBs; soluble heavy metals including mercury, chromium; lead, zinc, arsenic, molybdenum, nickel, cobalt, antimony, silver, and uranium from water; feed lots; leaching of nitrogen fertilizers into the groundwater; organically polluted water; acid mine drainage; smelter slag; metal contaminated blast sand; metal plating sludge; contaminated soils; solidification and stabilization of hazardous waste; oil refinery and oil field sludge; leach residues; batteries, possibly MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether, a gasoline additive) and various other organic toxins, and radioactive isotopes, such as 90Sr and 137Cs.
Water Filtration
Filter and clarify drinking water, swimming pools, waste water, etc.
BRZ™ is used to remediate water contaminated with oil, gas, nitrogen, and heavy metals cations; such as silver, mercury, nickel, chrome, cobalt, antimony, arsenic, and radionuclides. BRZ™ can replace sand/anthracite and multimedia for municipal water treatment plants to increase filtrate clarity to 5 micron and increase flow rate by 2-3 times.
